Inside the factory: how a Suffa sofa is made
There's something special about realizing that the sofa you sit on every night has a history. That it passed through experienced hands, that someone carefully chose each material, that every detail was thoughtfully considered. That's what this article is about: opening the doors of our factory in Lordelo, Paredes, and showing you what happens before a Suffa sofa arrives at your home.
Over 30 years of know-how
Suffa was founded in 2010, but its history began much earlier. Our founder spent over three decades working in the upholstery sector, learning, making mistakes, and perfecting his craft. This accumulated knowledge lives on in every sofa that leaves our factory today. It's not marketing. It's literally what happens when someone dedicates their life to a trade.
The frame: the foundation of everything
It all starts with a solid wood frame with quality certification. It may seem like a technical detail, but this is where it's decided whether a sofa will last five years or twenty. A well-built frame doesn't give way, doesn't creak, doesn't fail, and that's precisely why we treat it like the foundation of a house.
Foams: where comfort meets science
We work with foams of 55 kg/m³ and 25 kg/m3 densities, carefully chosen to create a quality and durable sofa. Denser foam provides lumbar support; softer foam cradles the body. Finding the right balance between the two is not a formula; it's something learned over years and changes from sofa to sofa.
Italian leathers and fabrics that stand the test of time
The leathers we use come from Italian tanneries with sustainability certification. The technical fabrics are tested for abrasion resistance, stain resistance, and wear over time. Nothing goes into production without undergoing a rigorous validation process. Because a sofa isn't meant to last a season; it's meant to last a lifetime.
The human touch that makes a difference
The final touches are done by hand by artisans with years of experience: the detailed stitching, the finishing of the arms, the right tension in the cushions. It is this element, impossible to replicate on an industrial assembly line, that distinguishes a Suffa sofa from any other.
Buying a Suffa sofa means bringing home a piece made by people who master what they do. That's why it feels good, lasts long, and is worth every euro invested.
